Malta Culver: In the summer of 2008 I made a very short visit to Berlin, less than 24 hours: the town and its history impressed me very much and especially matters concerning the legendary Berlin Wall.
In 2009 I returned to Berlin for several more days and I was able to see the East Side Gallery: this is the longest part of the Wall still standing, and it is full of graffitti and drawings. And I also saw two other pieces of the Wall at the front of the Berlin Wall Museum.
This inspired me to do the pastels; the reason why...I really do not know but I feel the desire to do it. I imagine the glory and tragedy of Berlin has a lot to do with it.

Christy Huang:
Beginning in early childhood, Christy’s inclination in the arts was discovered by her father, a great Chinese brush painting artist and an excellent calligrapher. Under his guidance and rigorous training, Christy cultivated an appreciation for art, transforming the beauty of nature with brush painting and calligraphy through her eyes, hands, heart as well as soul.
These early experiences laid the foundation of Christy’s unique style of catching the spirit, the innate beauty of the flora and landscapes of the surrounding environment involving our daily lives, which is presented in the form of visual art, her paintings.
Christy and her husband, David, moved to the United States of America in 1972. The family relocated in Miami in 2000. The move turned out to be a great opportunity and a breakthrough point for her. Shortly after her settling in Miami, she attended the Private Romero Hidalgo Artists’ Studio. She learned and matured her skill in charcoal, oil, and pastel. She has been a regular contributor since 2003 to the annual Romero Hidalgo Artists’ Studios art exhibition. In 2009, Christy was invited to display her work at the grand opening art exhibition for Jerry’s Artarama in Miami.
Her traditional Chinese art background blends harmoniously with the rigorous, progressive and contemporary teachings at the Romero Hidalgo Artists’ Studio. This experience further advances her scope of creating pieces of art with the timeless beauty of the world we live in. Her views are reflected exquisitely in this exhibition with works inspired by the synergy of nature observed in the local environment and in her garden.
